Oh, the joy that can be found in a simple night. As you can see, the floor still contains boxes of leftover Christmas decorating, skis from shredding last weekend, and my gym bag containing a wet swimming suit. There is so much I could do tonight, but somehow watching a movie with my roommate after her hard week seems 'tant mieux'....so much the better. As Julie and Julia plays on our TV, the week melts away and the Christmas lights twinkle. I have a routine about falling asleep around the holidays with only the Christmas and here's to looking forward to that again soon.

Dear Charlie Brown tree--I am sorry that you were stuffed in the basement so thoughtlessly last year. I am sorry that most of your ornaments were taken off or broken, but I am especially sorry that a few ornaments were left on you, like a tease. Your stand is plastic, your lights: automatic, your branches: mushed, your patience: pushed. If it is any consolation, my new roommates not only love you, but want to fix our relationship with you as a group while drinking hot drinks and watching Christmas movies. Look how hilariously cute they are in expressing it. It can only get better from here if you're willing. Think about it, but until then, thank you for the things you endured last year and for the joy you will bring on evenings when you are the only thing lighting the room as snow falls outside. Love, Kristi

Say hello to my early Christmas present personally delivered by my brother from the Midwest. In times like this, I love rather than loathe the matchy matchy-ness that is required in decorating. What does that mean? Why are you making up words? Here's the deal. I do like it when things match. It is nice to have brown shoes when you wear a brown belt, gentlemen. It is fabulous to have a bright colored ballet flat shoe to bring out the beauty of a shirt, but sometimes, I learn that I have the potential to go overboard. As a child, I would have been the girl wearing two pairs of socks, one turquoise one lime green because, hello, my skirt has both color stripes on it. So, on with the story. Part of my eye for matching things (the good side) came from my mom. She has artfully decorated our house to make it a home my whole life. So the bigger picture of this post is that her matchy matchyness caused her to buy a new hutch to fit into her new toasted red/neutral kitchen, hence making available one of my favorite pieces of furniture she owns (owned). Thanks mom and dad, consider the bulk of your shopping complete. Check out here and here and here to see bigger versions of inspiration and dreams I have for this beauty!

This is exactly why my brother left Colorado early for his drive back to the Midwest. Do not be fooled, this is picture is actually Colorado and it is actually today. The snow is supposed to be letting up and we had a two hour delay this morning as opposed to the cancellations by every.school.district.in.town. None the less, I would have been working. Stay safe and only use four wheel drive if you're from Texas, okay?

It must be said that this is the most unique sushi I've ever had ordered for me. UFO does not stand for something, it's called UFO because it literally looks like a UFO. As we ordered rice beer and watched some college football (yes, college football at my favorite sushi place) Craig and I enjoyed a meal we never learned to appreciate in the Midwest.

It is not everyday that I can have family in town. It is not everyday that there is a dog in our house. Today, both are simultaneously true. This weekend, after skiing and dog parks and dinners out, Craig and Newton found themselves especially tired. This may have been the only time that Newton slowed down after chewing through my volleyball, making regular trips through my roommates doors, and finding every possible source of water in the house. So great to have them here, though I must say I prefer Newton at someone elses' house. I prefer my dogs trained, but love them regardless.

While living at Frontier Ranch, our bible study leader gifted us with some books during a time where each of us were asking really big questions in our lives. I remember that morning distinctly and the time that each of us spent off on our own. This week, I found this small moleskin notebook and wanted to put it in my line of sight to remember. Thanks Kari Jo. On my walls, I would write.....
